The New Zealand cricketers are through to the Super Eight stage of the Twenty20 World Cup in Sri Lanka despite losing their final group match to Pakistan.

The Black Caps' unusually sloppy fielding effort helped Pakistan post 177 for six, and they came up 13 runs short at 164 for nine.

The top order batsmen Brendon McCullum and Rob Nicol got into the 30s, and later in the innings Ross Taylor made 26 runs off 11 balls but was run out in the penultimate over.

The Black Caps are confirmed for the next phase of the tournament through their healthy net run-rate.

Barring a heavy loss to Bangladesh in their final group match, Pakistan will also go through.

In the other game overnight, India's spinners ripped through the England batting lineup to lead their side to a crushing 90-run win.

Chasing 171 England crumbled to 80 all out, their heaviest loss in Twenty20.

Both sides had already qualified for the Super Eight.
