Wests Tigers will save themselves some money after sacking coach Tim Sheens but then offering him another role at the National Rugby League club.
Sheens officially lost his position Tuesday and he had been linked with the vacant Warriors role.
Tigers chairman David Trodden says the club will embark on a restructure of its football operations as a result of the side's dismal showing in 2012, when it failed to make the finals despite being the preseason favourite to win the title.
By not sacking Sheens the Tigers won't have to pay him out the two years remaining on his contract.
Trodden says they still want Sheens, who won the 2005 Premiership, involved at the club.
Highly regarded Manly assistant Matt Parish had been considered the frontrunner for the coaching role, while Melbourne assistant Kevin Walters and former St George Illawarra coach Nathan Brown have also been mentioned as possible candidates.
Trodden says the club will give Sheens all the time he needs to make a decision on whether to accept a new role at the club, likely to be in a coaching coordinator capacity.
Trodden says no timeframe had been placed on the search for a new head coach.
