The Chelsea captain John Terry has been banned for four matches and fined 276-thousand euros after being found guilty by the English Football Association of racially abusing Queens Park Rangers' Anton Ferdinand.
Terry has two weeks to lodge an appeal against a decision relating to an incident that took place on October 23rd last year.
The ban will not come into force until the appeals procedure is complete.
Terry's representatives said in a statement he was "disappointed" that the Football Association reached a different conclusion to the clear not guilty verdict in July of a court of law, and he has asked for the detailed written reasons of the decision.
The former England captain dramatically announced his retirement from international football last weekend, effectively accusing the FA of forcing his hand after the governing body pressed on with charges following the court case.
