Australia crushes India by 9 wickets

Australia have crushed India by nine wickets in their first match of the Super 8 round at the Twenty20 World Cup in Sri Lanka.

In the process, Australia set a T20 World Cup record for the opening stand of 133 from David Warner and Shane Watson, which was also Australia's highest partnership for any wicket in this format.

India was restricted to 140 for 7 from their 20 overs with the opening batsman Irfan Pathan top scoring with 31.

The pace bowler Shane Watson was the best of Australia's bowlers taking 3 wicket for 34 runs.

In reply, Watson hit seven sixes in his innings of 72 off 55 balls, while Warner was not on 63 from 60 deliveries.

Glenn Maxwell chipped in with four runs as Australia reached its target of 141 in just the 14th over.

Watson was named man of the match for his third game in succession.

Australia next plays South Africa and India take on Pakistan.
