Manchester United has beaten Romanian side Cluj 2-1 in their European Champions League football clash in Transylvania.

Cluj took an early lead after 13 minutes before Robin van Persie restored normal service before half-time with a header on the half hour mark, then the United striker cracked another home four minutes after the break.

Elsewhere Celtic upset Spartak Moscow 3-2 in Russia for the Scottish champions' first away victory in the European Cup since 1986.

The holders Chelsea continued their good start to their title defence with a 4-0 win in Denmark over newcomers Nordsjaelland - which means New Zealand in Danish.

Title favourites Barcelona won 2-0 at Benfica in Portugal, while former champions Bayern Munich lost 3-1 at Belarussian club BATE Borisov.

Italian champs Juventus drew one-all against visiting Ukrainians Shakhtar Donetsk, Spanish club Valencia beat France's Lille 2-0 at home and Portugal's Braga beat Galatasaray 2-0 in Turkey.
