Ashley Cole charged over Twitter rant

11:49 am on 9 October 2012

The Chelsea and England footballer Ashley Cole is facing a misconduct charge after a foul-mouthed Twitter rant at the English FA.

Cole was extremely detrimental with his description of the FA after having his evidence questioned during John Terry's racial abuse case involving Queens Park Rangers' Anton Ferdinand.

The England left-back later deleted the tweet, but only after it was re-tweeted more than 19,000 times. He then made a full apology.

Cole, who is in England's squad for their World Cup qualifier against San Marino at Wembley later this week, has until just before the match to respond to the charge.

Chelsea's manager Roberto Di Matteo has already confirmed Cole will be punished by the club.
