The top two players in golf's world rankings, Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods were both beaten on the opening day of the inaugural World Golf Final in Turkey.

McIlroy lost to the American Matt Kuchar in round one of the eight-man matchplay event, while Woods lost to last year's US Masters champion Charl Schwartzel of South Africa.

The two top in each group go through to the semi-finals of the 6.5 million dollar tournament.
