Breakers win ugly at Vector

9:40 am on 13 October 2012

The New Zealand Breakers have beaten the Adelaide 36ers 73-59 in a scrappy, low-scoring encounter at Auckland's Vector Arena.

The defending Australian basketball champions led 36 - 29 at half-time but the Breakers trailed 47-46 heading into the final quarter.

However the hosts were able to edge ahead with a dominant 27-12 last spell, to level their season at a win and a loss after two games.

Cedric Jackson led the Breakers with 17 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and five steals in an all-round effort while young centre Alex Pledger scored 15 and picked up 10 rebounds as well as limiting Luke Schenscher to two points for the match.

The ugly win maintains the Breakers' excellent recent record against Adelaide - they've beaten the 36ers in their past 12 consecutive meetings.

Elsewhere the Wollongong Hawks had a 68-58 road win over the Cairns Taipans and the Sydney Kings saw off the visiting Melbourne Tigers 85-82.
