JK welcomes AIG deal

7:29 pm on 12 October 2012

A New Zealand rugby great is welcoming the sale of more sponsorship space on the front of the iconic All Black jersey to the global insurance company American International Group, or AIG.

Sir John Kirwan was at today's launch of the deal with AIG, and the All Black great and new Blues coach maintains it had to happen - though he's not sure how other former and current players will feel about it.

Sir John says the deal had to happen as it's getting harder and harder to compete from a place like New Zealand.

The All Blacks Sevens will sport the AIG logo for the first time this weekend at the opening leg of the IRB World Series on the Gold Coast, while the All Blacks will run out with the new sponsor on for the first time in next weekend's final Bledisloe Cup test in Brisbane.
