John O'Neill will stand down at the end of the month as chief executive of the Australian Rugby Union.
The decision came earlier than O'Neill had originally forecast after the Wallabies' semi-final elimination at last year's World Cup, when he said he would not continue beyond the end of 2013 when his current deal finished.
O'Neill will concentrate on his business interests.
