The new New South Wales Waratahs coach Michael Cheika says he hasn't spoken with Ireland centre Brian O'Driscoll since taking over the reins of the Super Rugby franchise a month ago.

However he says the Waratahs remain interested in signing the British and Irish Lions captain.

O'Driscoll has talked of his desire to reunite with his former Leinster coach Cheika in Australia.

O'Driscoll's contract ends next June and he's suggested he could join the Waratahs after the Lions tour.

The Waratahs had a disastrous Super Rugby campaign in 2012 ending the season with a record eight straight losses.
