Japan's Fumiaki Tanaka is set to become the first player from his country to play in the Super Rugby competition.
Tanaka will play for the Dunedin-based Highlanders next season after his Japanese club announced on Saturday the 27-year-old halfback would be joining the side for next year's competition.
Tanaka has been playing for Otago in the ITM cup this season.
