Nicholson wins in Pau

The veteran New Zealand equestrian Andrew Nicholson has capped off a top year with victory at a three-day event in Pau, France.

Riding his Olympic mount Nereo, Nicholson became the first New Zealander to win in Pau, as he overtook Olympic team-mate Jonathon Paget in the showjumping. Paget finished second on his Olympic horse Clifton Promise.

Three of New Zealand's Olympic bronze medal winning team featured in the top eight, with Caroline Powell and Onwards and Upwards in eighth spot. Nicholson was also seventh on Mr Cruise Control..

Nicholson has been in superb form recently, winning four big events in the past four months - the four star Burghley International Horse Trials, and the three star Boekelo, Blenheim and Barbary Castle events.

Nicholson was second last year in Pau.
