New changes to cricket rules to begin in NZ Sri Lanka series

8:48 am on 30 October 2012

New playing conditions in international cricket will come into effect for the first time during New Zealand's Twenty20 series opener with Sri Lanka in Pallekele tonight.

The changes have been approved by the ICC Board and include the third umpire being asked to check for a no-ball following a dismissal, day/night test matches and bowlers now being allowed to bowl two fast, short-pitched deliveries instead of one per over in One Day Internationals.

The third umpire was previously asked to check a no-ball if a decision was referred by on-field officials, but will now immediately check the fairness of a delivery in a dismissal.

The Black Caps captain, Ross Taylor, says he's looked over the changes to the rules and is looking forward to seeing his young quick bowler, Trent Boult, take advantage of the new short pitched delivery.

Taylor says his side will be looking to learn from mistakes made in two super over defeats during the Twenty20 World Cup in Sri Lanka earlier this month.
