The Wallabies' latest captain Nathan Sharpe has continued his incredible swansong season by winning the John Eales Medal, an award decided by his peers.

Sharpe, who twice during the year postponed his international retirement, outpolled flanker David Pocock who had led the voting by a massive 93 points after the World Cup, but missed the Wallabies last six matches of this year's campaign because of a knee injury.

Forwards have won the prized award nine times in the last 11 years.
