The ITM Cup Championship winning coach Tana Umaga has signed up for the next two years as the head coach of the Counties Manukau Steelers.

Last weekend Umaga took the talented young team to their first final win in nearly two decades and is looking to continue the good work he has started with the Steelers.

The Counties Manukau RFU Chief Executive Andrew Maddock says they are delighted that Umaga has chosen to remain with Counties Manukau.

Umaga says it's important for him to foster homegrown talent within the region and create a good team culture.

He says the team's promotion to the first division is going to bring even more challenges for him as a coach and the team.
