Jeremy Smith was announced as the Kiwi Player of the Year, claiming the Steve Watene Memorial Medal at the New Zealand Rugby League awards last night.
Smith is a two-time National Rugby League premiership winner with the Melbourne Storm and the St George Dragons and was also a member of the Kiwis 2008 World Cup and 2010 Four Nations-winning cmapaigns.
He currently plays for the Cronulla Sharks who he helped get to the NRL playoffs last season.
It is the inaugural year for the Steve Watene Memorial Medal.
The New Zealand Warriors player Ben Henry took out the Kiwi Rookie of the Year award while the Sydney Roosters' Roger Tuivasa-Sheck was named junior player of the year.
