New Warriors coach has high hopes but no grand predictions

The Warriors will go into next year's National Rugby League campaign with high expectations, but new coach Matthew Elliott says it's too early to say how quickly they'll bounce back from their disappointing 2012 season.

Elliott was appointed to the job only a month ago, succeeding Brian McClennan, who departed before the end of his first year in the job, as the 2011 grand finalists finished near the bottom of the table this season.

The former Canberra and Penrith coach met the Warriors' players as a group for the first time this week at the start of pre-season training.

This week he's been mostly an observer at training allow fitness staff to work with the players.

Elliott says he'll appoint a captain, a job performed by Simon Mannering for the past three seasons, after he's spent more time with the players.
