Hamilton professional David Smail has shot an even par 72 in the final round of the Taiheiyo Masters to bolster his chances of another season on the Japan Golf Tour.
The 42-year-old Smail, who has played for 15 consecutive years in Japan, had rounds of 68, 68, 74 and 72 to finish on a six under par total, nine shots back from local champion Rio Ishikawa.
Smail earned $33,000 and climbed to 52nd on the Japan Golf Order of Merit. He needs to finish inside the top 70 on the money list to secure his card for next year on tour.
The North Harbour professional Michael Hendry has progressed to the final stage of qualifying for the Japan Tour.
