The South African batsman JP Duminy will take no further part in the Test series against Australia after rupturing his left Achilles' tendon.
The injury occurred during a fitness drill after yesterday's opening day of the test at the Brisbane Cricket Ground.
Duminy will return to South Africa with a replacement to be named soon.
Duminy's series-ending injury robs South Africa of their primary slow bowling option after they dropped leg-spinner Imran Tahir in favour of a four-prong pace attack.
