English Channel record holder Trent Grimsey has easily won the opening round of the New Zealand Ocean Swim Series.
The 24-year-old Queenslander won the 3.3-kilometre swim from Russell to Paihia.
He finished a minute ahead of defending series champion Kane Radford of Auckland.
New Plymouth's Charlottle Webby finished two and a half minutes ahead Kirsty Wannan in the women's race.
