The flamboyant West Indies opening batsman Chris Gayle has made test cricket history by smashing the first ball of a test match for six.

Gayle launched into the first delivery sent down by the Bangladesh debutant Sohag Gazi sending it over the long on boundary, and the big West Indian took 18 runs off the opening over.

But the 21 year old off spinner took revenge by having Gayle caught for 24.

The West Indies ended the opening day in Dhaka on 361-4 with centuries to Kieran Powell and Shivnarine Chanderpaul.
