Souths about to lose part owner Crowe

11:30 am on 19 November 2012

Australia's Nine Network is reporting that film star Russell Crowe wants to sell his share of the South Sydney league club at the end of next season after a difficult year professionally and personally.

On hearing the news, the club patriarch George Piggins, who had been fiercely opposed to a takeover by Crowe and businessman Peter Holmes a Court, said his worst fears about private ownership of South Sydney could be realised.

75 percent of the club's members voted in favour of the pair's $3 million takeover in 2006.

South Sydney have called a press conference for this morning when club officials are expected to address the issue.
