The Holden driver Jamie Whincup has clinched the 2012 Australian V8 Supercars title after finishing third at the penultimate round at Winton in Victoria.
It is his fourth championship.
The 29-year-old overcame a mid-race drive-through penalty which robbed him of the lead and dropped him to 22nd place, powering his way back to a podium spot and gaining enough points to guarantee the title.
The final round is in Sydney in a fortnight.
