F1 drivers championship still alive

11:30 am on 19 November 2012

McLaren's Lewis Hamilton has won the United States Grand Prix in Texas, leaving the Formula One drivers championship to be decided in the final round in Brazil.

Hamilton took the lead on lap 42 of the 56 lap race at the new track in Austin, finishing ahead of championship leader Sebastian Vettel in a Red Bull and Fernando Alonso in a Ferrari.

Vettel takes a 13-point lead over Alonso to the season-closing Brazilian GP next weekend.

The 25-year-old German, who leads the drivers' standings with 273 points from Alonso on 260, is seeking to become Formula One's youngest triple world champion at Interlagos.

Vettel's second place, despite his team-mate Mark Webber being forced to retire, was sufficient to supply Red Bull with the 2012 constructors' title.

Felipe Massa came in fourth, followed by Jenson Button, Kimi Raikkonen, Romain Grosjean, Nico Huelkenberg and Pastor Maldonado while Bruno Senna rounded out the top 10.
