Malawi's netballers now receive benefits on a par with men's football

The Malawi netball team has reaped the benefits of a strong performance at this month's Fast5 World Series in Auckland.

Local media reports say the team will now receive government subsidies to match those of the national men's football team after the side beat Australia and England during the recent tournament, to finish in fifth place ahead of Australia.

That's not exactly big money however - Malawi's players will now get about $115 each in game allowances and about $8 in training allowances.

Still it's on a par with the footballers and the Minister of Sports Enock Chihana hosted the Queens at a luncheon in Malawi's capital, Lilongwe, last week to announce the news, declaring there should never be discrimination between the netballers and the men's football team.
