Gunners make next round in Europe

11:47 am on 22 November 2012

Arsenal are through to the last 16 of European football's elite Champions League with a game to spare, following a 2-0 home victory over French club Montpellier.

Jack Wilshere's first goal since returning from a long-term injury and a Lukas Podolski thunderbolt gave the Gunners the comfortable win in London and a place in the next round.

Schalke 04 qualify second behind Arsenal, after the Germans beat Greek side Olympiakos 1-0.

Italian giants AC Milan secured a place in the last 16 by beating Belgian champions Anderlecht 3-1 away.

Malaga secured top spot in the group by drawing 2-2 at Zenit St Petersburg, who will now battle it out with Anderlecht for third spot and a Europa League berth with both sides on four points.

The Portuguese club Porto remain in command of their group after thrashing Dinamo Zagreb 3-0.

Porto will win the group if they take a point from their final game next month away to second-placed Paris St Germain.
