League Players Association addresses shoulder charge ban

7:15 am on 24 November 2012

Australia's Rugby League Players' Association will meet ARL Commission officials to voice the players' displeasure at the proposed banning of the shoulder charge.

Earlier this week the ARL accepted a recommendation to ban the risky tactic, which resulted in a number of serious concussions last season.

Despite only two players offering replies when asked to contribute to the review into the shoulder charge earlier this year, the Players Association boss David Garnsey claimed players had not been involved heavily enough in the final decision.

Several leading players have argued that stiffer penalties for contact with the head would have been preferable to banning shoulder charges.
