Phoenix snatch 1-1 draw with Glory

7:12 am on 25 November 2012

Perth Glory striker Shane Smeltz scored his first goal of the A-League football season but the Wellington Phoenix still managed to grab a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw at nib Stadium.

Smeltz, who had missed five of the previous six games due to a combination of injury, personal reasons and international duty, gave Perth the lead in the 62nd minute with a beautiful strike from the edge of the box.

But the Phoenix grabbed the equaliser 11 minutes later when in-form striker Jeremy Brockie outsmarted Steve Pantelidis with a clever chip before drilling the ball through the legs of Glory goalkeeper Danny Vukovic.

The result saw Perth slip to fifth spot, while Wellington remain in seventh.

Ten-man Melbourne Victory climb to third after overcoming a controversial first-half send-off to secure a gritty 2-0 win over Western Sydney at Parramatta Stadium.

Newcastle Jets pinched a late 3-3 draw at Melbourne Heart in a dramatic game that saw the Jets fight back from both 2-0 and 3-2 down, eventually taking a share of the points with an 87th minute Ryan Griffiths penalty.

Newcastle stay fourth while the Heart are eighth in the 10-man league.
