The New Zealand cricketers tightened their grip on day two of the second and deciding test against Sri Lanka in Colombo.

After being dismissed for 412, the Black Caps pace bowlers Tim Southee and Trent Boult had the home side on their knees at 12 for 3 wickets, before they recovered to 43 for 3 when the day was abandonned because of bad light with seven overs remaining.

In New Zealand's innings Kane Williamson completed his third test century, reaching 135, and Daniel Flynn made 53, but it was a disappointing total after they'd been 276 for 2.

The Sri Lankan spinner Rangana Herath took six wickets, adding to his 11 from the first test.
