Chelsea's new interim manager Rafael Benitez was the target of angry jeers from fans at his new English Premier League football club, as his tenure began with a nil-all draw to against defending champions Manchester City.

Appointed on an interim basis after Roberto Di Matteo was sacked, Benitez has not been forgiven by some Chelsea fans for anti Chelsea comments he made while manager of rivals Liverpool.

He was roundly booed prior to kick-off at Stamford Bridge, while fans chanted in support of Di Matteo and Benitez concedes it will take time to win over the fans.

The nil all result means Manchester City drop from the top of the table and now trail Manchester United by a point,

West Bromwich Albion are third having continued their good form with a 4-2 win over Sunderland.

In other results Tottenham beat West Ham 3-1, Liverpool and Swansea drew nil-all and Southampton moved out of the bottom three with a 2-nil win over Newcastle United.
