Ainslie quits Olympic sailing

5:50 am on 28 November 2012

The British sailing legend Ben Ainslie will not bid for a fifth Olympic gold medal at the 2016 Rio Games and will instead focus on his Americas Cup campaign.

Ainslie says it would have been difficult to top the feeling of winning at his home Olympics and is keen to move on to new challenges.

35-year-old Ainslie won a silver medal at Atlanta 1996, with golds in Sydney, Athens, Beijing and London... he has won more medals than any other sailor.

Ainslie, who has previously had time with Team New Zealand, has been training with defending Cup holders Oracle Team USA and will be at the helm of one of two AC72 catamarans during events in the build-up to September's Cup.
