The South African rugby side the Lions have announced a fixture list of friendlies for next season as they prepare to fight for promotion back to the Super Rugby competition.

The Johannesburg-based side was relegated after this season to make way for the new Southern Kings franchise, but will be involved in a promotion-relegation match with the bottom placed South African side in late July.

The Lions have organised 16 friendlies, including games against all five local Super Rugby sides, a tour to the United States and several international games against the likes of the French Barbarians, Samoa, Russia and Montpellier.
