Black Sticks beaten by Germany

The New Zealand men's hockey team has been beaten 3-2 by Germany in their opening match at the top-eight Champions Trophy tournament in Melbourne.

The Olympic champions scored all three of their goals in the first half, while New Zealand dominated the second half with goals to Matt LeHuillier from a penalty corner and a field goal from Nick Wilson.

The Black Sticks dominated possession but were unable to convert most of their scoring opportunities.

New Zealand's next match is against India today.
