Jamie Whincup grabs fourth V8 title

11:37 am on 3 December 2012

Jamie Whincup, the Australian auto racing driver, sealed his fourth V8 Superar Championship in Sydney on Sunday.

Whincup effectively won the title two weeks ago and fifth was enough at the Sydney Telstra 500 to make it official, the race won by Will Davison from Craig Lowndes and James Courtney.

He'll join world motorsport royalty in a fortnight's time for the Race of Champions in Bangkok, where he will race alongside Formula One World Champion Sebastian Vettel, multiple MotoGP Champ Mick Doohan, and World Touring Car Champion Andy Priaulx.

There was cause for New Zealand celebration when a third place finish in the season finale was enough to crown Scott McLaughlin the 2012 Dunlop Series for V8 Supercars champion, the 19-year-old the youngest ever Development series winner.

Craig Lowndes wrangled second place in the championship by finishing second and James Courtney ended his challenging season on a high with third.
