McIlroy makes semis in Adelaide

Updated at 8:21 am on 6 December 2012

The New Zealand lawn bowler Shannon McIlroy has reached the men's singles semi-finals at the World Championships in Adelaide, beating Malcolm De Sousa from Jersey 21-3.

McIlroy took just 15 ends to secure his semi showdown with Australia's Leif Selby, which takes place on Sunday morning.

The women's triples combination of Mandy Boyd, Jan Khan and Lisa White play Hong Kong in a quarter-final late this morning, with the winner to play Scotland in the afternoon.

On a busy day for the Black Jacks, Ali Forsyth, Matt Gallop and Tony Grantham will take on the winners of the Australia versus China morning quarter-final of the men's triples.

The defending champions Jo Edwards and Val Smith also contest the women's pairs final against Australia's Rebecca Quail and Kelsey Cottrell at 5pm NZT.

New Zealand won four gold medals at the last world championships in Christchurch four years ago.
