Taylor takes a break - with no sign of a return

Ross Taylor's Black Caps career may have ended following his effective dumping as captain of the national cricket side by coach Mike Hesson.

Hesson and the code's chief executive David White both say they wanted Taylor to continue as skipper of the test side only, following a review of the Sri Lankan tour - but Taylor turned that down and is now taking a break from the game.

New Zealand's best batsman isn't talking to the media but he's issued a statement in which he says he met with New Zealand Cricket yesterday and accepted their apology for the way in which matters have been handled.

Taylor says he plans to return when the time is right - which may contradict White, who told media this morning Taylor would definitely be back for the home series against England in February.
