Black Sticks getting better says coach

The New Zealand men's hockey team will meet Germany in their first classification match for fifth to eighth at the Champions Trophy tournament in Melbourne.

The Black Sticks were beaten 2-0 by the Netherlands in their quarter-final last night to be eliminated from finals contention.

In the other quarter-finals Pakistan beat Germany 2-1, Australia beat England 2-0 and India beat Belgium 1-0.

Head coach Colin Batch says while the result was disappointing, there were plenty of positives against Netherlands, who have now made the semi-finals at the last 24 consecutive Champions Trophy tournaments.

He says they're continuing to improve, which is pleasing.

The play-offs are Saturday with the finals on Sunday.
