The former All Blacks flanker Scott Robertson has been appointed coach of the Canterbury provincial rugby side.

Robertson's appointment follows former head coach Tabai Matson's move to an assistant coaching role with the Crusaders.

Robertson was an assistant coach with the Canterbury side this season helping them to an historic fifth consecutive NPC title.

The former Canterbury, Crusaders and All Black loose forward also spent the previous four years as the assistant forwards coach for Canterbury under Rob Penney's stewardship.
