Ross Taylor has issued a statement following his effective sacking as captain of the New Zealand cricket team.
Following a review into the Sri Lankan tour, Taylor was offered the test captaincy alone, which he refused, and he's now taking a break from the game.
He says he met with New Zealand Cricket yesterday and accepted their apology for the way in which matters have been handled but the much-needed break from the Black Caps after a difficult few months will refresh him.
However Taylor says he plans to return to the game when the time is right - which may contradict NZC CEO David White, who told media this morning that Taylor would definitely be back for the upcoming inbound England tour.
Taylor says he was told of the decision to change the captaincy on Tuesday this week and while it was sad and disappointing from a personal perspective, it did not come as a great surprise.
He says the coach Mike Hesson, assistant coach Bob Carter and manager Mike Sandle met with him just prior to the first test in Sri Lanka to raise concerns about his captaincy, then the next day Hesson told Taylor he did not want him to captain the team after the tour.
