The New Zealand men's hockey team has beaten England 3-2 in extra time to finish seventh at the Champions Trophy in Melbourne, consigning the English to the wooden spoon.
The Black Sticks led 1-0 early on in a dominant first half performance, Stephen Jenness opening the scoring on the reverse from a Phil Burrows pass.
But they missed several goal scoring opportunities and were made to pay by the English, who scored the equaliser just before the break - then went ahead with 13 minutes remaining.
The striker Nick Wilson equalised again with a vicious reverse shot from the top of the circle to force extra time and the Black Sticks scored the matchwinning golden goal through Wilson, who deflected a penalty corner in the first period of extra time.
It's the New Zealanders' only win of the elite eight-nation tournament.
