The International Rugby Board's player of the year Dan Carter has missed out on nominations for New Zealand player of the year.

Carter may have won the IRB gong for a second time last week, but he's not among the three male nominees for the national rugby awards.

The Kelvin R Tremain Memorial Player of the Year will be one of three other All Blacks: captain Richie McCaw, No.8 Kieran Read or centre Conrad Smith.
