The Philippine boxing star Manny Pacquiao is ignoring pleas from his mother and wife to stop boxing following his defeat by Mexican rival Juan Manuel Marquez.

The former eight-division world champion was knocked out by Marquez in the sixth round of their non-title welterweight bout in las Vegas on Sunday.

The 33-year-old listened to his wife and mother make tearful appeals for him to quit, but he says he's looking forward to a rest and then he'll be back to fight.

His trainer Eddie Roach says Pacquiao will return unless he feels the boxer can no longer compete to the best of his ability.

Meanwhile 39-year-old Marquez is yet to commit to another fight.
