Du Plessis to captain Proteas T20 side

6:08 am on 14 December 2012

Faf du Plessis will lead the South African cricket team in the three-match Twenty20 series against the Black Caps starting next week in Durban.

The selection convenor Andrew Hudson says du Plessis has been given the job to free their regular limited overs skipper AB de Villiers from the burden of captaincy, though he is still their first-choice captain and remains part of the squad.

The Proteas have also named their squad for the two-test series starting in the New Year, and it's unchanged from the lineup which recently won the series in Australia.

South Africa were knocked out in the group stage at the Twenty20 Wold Cup in Sri Lanka in September.

The three-match Twenty20 series against New Zealand starts next Friday.
