Former champion Ramy Ashour has regained the world men's squash title with a marathon 3-2 win over his Egyptian compatriot Mohammed El Shorbagy in Doha.

Ashour had already made certain of taking over as world number one by beating defending champion Nick Matthew in the semi-finals.

His brilliance on the volley and with surprising angles just prevailed against Shorbagy's movement and abilities at the front - but only after the younger man had led 8-7 in the decider.

Shorbagy, the 21-year-old England-based player, had beaten the top-seeded world number one, James Willstrop in the semi-finals.
