The New Zealand swimmer Lauren Boyle has added a bronze medal to the gold she won on Friday at the World Short Course Championships in Turkey.
The 25-year-old from the North Shore club finished just 6/100ths of a second from a second gold medal after leading for much of the way in the final of the 400 metres freestyle in Istanbul.
Boyle says she didn't realise how close she was to adding another gold medal to her tally. After winning the 800 freestyle, Boyle led by more than a second with 50 metres to go before being overatken.
She admits it was hard backing up from Friday's race and the last 100 didn't go well, however she's stoked to be on the podium again.
Boyle's time of 4:01.24 further lowered the New Zealand record she set during the 800 win.
Boyle also celebrated her 25th birthday in Europe, with the team presenting her with a special cake.
