The Softball New Zealand board has promised to review the state of softball in the country and how it is delivered, following a special general meeting in Wellington over the weekend.

Ten associations called the meeting after expressing concern at Softball New Zealand's governance and management.

The board has commited to work on a series of initiatives aimed at building stronger connections and momentum for the sport.

Board member and acting chairperson Nicky Sheriff says they had a robust and constructive discussion around many of the issues facing softball.

As a result a new long-term strategic plan is about to get underway, and it was agreed greater engagement with the associations, greater transparency and communications around decisions, and more resources and activities within the sport, are needed.

There was also recognition of the significance of hosting the Men's World Championships and importance of the event for the sport in 2013.
