Popovich bursts into limelight at Australian PGA

Australian sport is celebrating a new champion, a previously unsung golfer who won the prestigious Australian PGA championship at Coolum in Queensland.

The 26 year old Victorian Daniel Popovich, a first year professional, handled the pressure like a veteran as he led for all four days of the tournament to eventually win by four strokes.

Popovic had the title pretty much sewn up standing on the 18th tee, but he felt a huge sense of relief when he holed out on the last green.

Popovic, who was ranked 1251st in the world this time last week, credited the inspiration for victory to his father Radi, who has incurable bone cancer.
