The South African pace bowler Vernon Philander is in doubt for the test series against New Zealand in the New Year after a flare up of his left hamstring injury.
Philander didn't play in the second Test against Australia in Adelaide earlier this month due to a problematic left hamstring and sore back, and only bowled a mere five overs for his first class side before leaving the field for treatment
Proteas medical staff are yet to find out the results of a scan but will need at least a week to 10 days of rest.
The first test against the Blacks Caps starts in Cape Town on January second.
