Sir Alex Ferguson has dismissed reports suggesting veterans Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Rio Ferdinand will leave Manchester United at the end of the English Premier League football season.

The 38-year-old Scholes was reported to have told friends about his intention to retire for a second time.

Ferguson says he'd be surprised if Scholes had spoken to someone without speaking to him - and he hasn't - so he can dismiss that.

The United manager says 39-year-old Giggs could play for another year or two, while 34-year-old Ferdinand has been terrific.

The 70-year-old Ferguson says the speculation comes from their policy of only giving older players one-year contracts.

Meanwhile United have signed defemder Jonny Evans to a new three-and-a-half year deal.
